If you need your Department of State (DOS) Case ID or USCIS A-number, you can find this information on the Immigrant Data Summary sheet stapled to the front of the immigrant visa packet you and any accompanying family members received with your visa. If you did not receive an Immigrant Data Summary sheet with your visa packet, you may request this sheet from the U.S. Embassy or consulate that issued your visa.
Each family member will be provided a separate sheet. The Case ID number begins with three or four letters indicating the Embassy or consulate, followed by a series of numbers. Additionally, when you were interviewed at the U.S. Embassy or consulate, the DOS interviewing officer provided you with a USCIS handout that informed you of the need to pay the immigrant fee and included your A-number and Case ID Number. Your A-Number and DOS Case ID can also be found on the Visa Stamp (also called a Visa Foil) in your passport. · The A-Number is identified as the Registration Number on the Visa Stamp. If your A-number is fewer than 9 digits, insert a zero after the A and before the first digit to create a 9 digit number (for example A12345678 would become A012345678 ). · The DOS Case ID is identified as IV Case Number on the Visa Stamp, but has two additional numbers at the end, such as 01 or 02. When entering the IV Case Number as the DOS Case ID into USCIS ELIS, do not include the last two numbers. For example: if your IV Case Number is ABC1234567801, you would not include the 01 and enter your DOS Case ID as ABC12345678.
